GUIDE TO BUCKEYES IN TEXAS

Buckeyes are deciduous, polygamo-dioecious trees in the genus Aesculus and Ungnadia, belonging to the Sapindaceae Family in the order Sapindales. Buckeye species are identified by their distinctive leaves, colorful flowers and large seeds:

RED BUCKEYE (Aesculus pavia) is native to the eastern part of the state, and through south central texas.

TEXAS BUCKEYE (Aesculus glabra var. arguta syn Aesculus arguta). Texas Buckeye is can grow to 35' tall in the Texas Hill County.
